Grenada Travel by Air

Grenada Travel is simple enough in part because Grenada has an International Airport. Also Grenada less than 45 minutes flying from the two larger islands of Barbados and Trinidad which have even greater volume of International Flights.

From USA to Grenada

My Grenada travel plans normally invlove my taking American Airlines to San Juan Puerto Rico, and then connecting to Grenada. On my return do the opposite. I especially love the day time flight from Grenada back to San Juan … on a gorgeous day, views of the islands from above are breathtaking.

My sister on her trip home last June did not want to deal with connecting flights (maybe because she hadmy two nephews), … so they flew into New York, spent the night there, and then took a direct flight on Air Jamaica to Grenada. Air Jamaica offers this flight daily from NY JFK to Grenada.

Air Jamaica also offer a flight from Montego Bay, Jamaica to Grenada daily so if you are on the West Coast you can look into that option.

BWIA offers daily flights from New York, Miami, and Dullus (Wash DC area) to Trinidad with connecting service on to Grenada (about 30 minutes flying time).

From Europe to Grenada

Your best option for Grenada travel from Europe, will be to go through London. British Airways, Virgin and Golden Caribbean – Excel all have weekly direct flights from London’s Gatwick Airport to Grenada.

And BWIA has daily direct flights from Heathrow Airport to Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia and Trinidad, with same day connections via LIAT and Caribbean Star into Grenada.

From Canada to Grenada

Air Canada operates flights out of Toronto, and Montreal, to Barbados, and Trinidad respectively, with connections into Grenada via LIAT and Caribbean Star.

Air Canada sometimes offer seasonal (winter for example) direct flights to Grenada so check with your travel agent for more info. BWIA also has schedule flights originating from Toronto and Montreal

All other regions to Grenada

LIAT and Caribbean Star airlines do a go job keeping the islands connected. So my advice will be to focus on getting the easiest (or cheapest) flight from your location to one of the islands (Trinidad and Barbados are great options), and let LIAT/Caribbean Star handle the final short leg.

You cruise to Grenada … and now what do you do?

So your carribean cruise vacation is all set (or maybe not quite), and it includes a cruise to Grenada… and natuarally you are wondering … what’s there to do when I get to Grenada? Well, you are in luck.

This page will guide you to everything you need to know to make this a fun and memorable Grenada cruise. And if you are undecided, it will give you that little nudge you need to confidently book a cruise to Grenada.

I grew up in Grenada looking at all the cruise ships enter the harbour. In fact every ship that cruise to Grenada must pass directly in front of my house, I see them all from my varandah.

Decide now …

A caribbean cruise is a great way to get a taste of many islands in one shot. But the down side is that this is all you will get – a taste. Your ship will only be in port for a short time, most will certainly not even overnight.

To maximize your experience you should know exactly what you want to do when you cruise to Grenada. Even if you choose to just go with the flow, and wander about the town, then decide that is what you will do.

The worst thing you can do is get off the ship, and not have a clue of what you want to do … that can cost you precious fun, and lead to a mediocre day. And we definitley do not what that, right?

You will be Safe

The first thing you should now is that you will feel safe in Grenada. The island is very small, you won’t get lost, and if you do take a wrong turn the locals will happily get you back on track. I’m telling you this to let you know that you can feel free to walk or drive about, and explore on your own if you choose.

Ship Sponsored Tours …

All the ships that cruise to Grenada have their own shore excursions. That means that you can through them book tours to different sites, the beaches, and other activities. If you are looking for convenience, or just not the adventurous type, then this option is just for you.

You should know that when you book a ship sponsored shore excursion you will have to settle for the lowest common denominator. You will have to go along with the group … that means maybe stopping at places that holds no interest for you, and getting hustled through places where you would like to stay longer and see more.

Your own tour …

On the docks if you walk out a bit you will find many private taxis, and vans. They are authorized by the torisim authorities, and there to serve you. They are cheaper than the ship sponsored tours, and drivers will take you where you want to go.

The drivers are knowledgeable about the island, so feel free to solicit there advice in creating an interesting itinerary. However, as I said before there is no substitute to knowing ahead of time, what you want to do.

Where to go, and what to do?

Luckily for you I’ve already answered these two questions on this site. With the answer to these questions in hand you can create your own custom built itinerary. Once you have hand crafted your attraction list, try these suggestions

compare with your ship’s shore excursion offers … and pick the one you like the best.

Bring your attration list along, find a taxi and go roam about the island … the force is with you

OK, enough suspense … make your cruise to Grenada a blast with these fun attractions
