I had not heard of Umbrellas Beach Bar on Grand Anse Beach until Shara brought it to my attention. Thank You Shara. Here is her review and a few pics of Umbrella Beach Bar and Restaurant:

Hey Gooch,
Next time you’re in Grenada you should check out Umbrella’s Beach Bar, it’s on Grand Anse beach, you can get to it via the access road to the beach between Coyaba and St. George’s University (old campus). There’s enough parking at the end of the road and in front of the building.

We got there around 7:30 PM and were greeted by a friendly waitress. It’s a two level building, the seating on the upstairs has umbrellas off course; no umbrellas downstairs. We sat downstairs because it had been raining off and on that evening, although there were some people upstairs who didn’t seem to care about that.

Even though it was a weeknight it seemed to be relatively full, looked like an after work crowd was there as well as some visitors. We had our choice of sofa seating or tables, so we had our first drink on the sofa and dinner and the rest of the drinks at a table. The rum punch was pretty good, you could actually taste (and feel) the rum, (not sure if that’s a good or bad thing). My friend requested a drink that was not on the menu, gave the waitress the “recipe” and the bartender mixed it for her, it was good enough that she had two! Same with the rum punch for my sister and me.

The food is pretty tasty, my sister had the Grilled Veggie Salad and my friend had the Umbrellas Burger, they both said their dinner was good. I had the Catch Sandwich, on that day, the catch was Mahi Mahi and it was pretty good. It seems that you could have your choice of white or wheat bread, but on that day they were out of wheat bread. In general the food is appetizers, salads, sandwiches and desserts, all relatively light, nothing very heavy. I’m not a big drinker but from my perspective the drinks menu looked pretty good.

Umbrellas is not open very late, it’s closed on Mondays. Fridays and Saturdays it closes at 10, Tuesday – Thursday closes at 9 and I believe it closes at 8 on Sundays. A bell is literally rung at closing time, which I assumed was simply a last call, however, the waitress hurried us up to pay the bill because they had to close out the register! They started turning down the chairs and pulling down the windows shortly after that. It almost feels like you’re being chased out, we didn’t like that at all. So it’s the kind of place that you can go to if you’re spending the day on the beach, or if you want to have early dinner and drinks.

In general I would recommend Umbrellas Beach Bar, the food and drinks are good, the wait staff is friendly and nothing beats hanging out with friends having dinner and drinks, looking at St. George’s in the distance and listening to the waves crash ashore.

—Shara (USA)

There are many good restaurants and even some really fine dining places in Grenada, but one does stick out above the crowd: Le Bistro at Morne Rouge.

This restaurant offers a unique dining experience for those who really appreciate a very personal approach and a true chef’s touch. Patrick, chef and owner, marvelously joins traditional French and European cuisine with influences of the Middle and Far East. They work with local and seasonal products, thus ensuring top quality, and regularly change the menu. This way you are always in for great culinary surprises.

Call up for a reservation and he will even accommodate the strangest of pallets and design a menu that suits your taste buds.

Located at Clove Hill road, Morne Rouge, few steps from Grand Anse, call: 00473-533-1262

You will not want to eat elsewhere after experiencing this culinary delight!

Everything is fresh, local, and unimaginably delicious. My personal favorites are the Crabback appetizer, and the Prawns in lobster sauce. I can’t rave enough about pure deliciousness of this food!

As if the fabulous food isn’t enough, the restaurant is in a great location, downtown in the heart of the capital, St. Georges, on the Carenage, literally sitting over the ocean. It is casual open-air dining with a million dollar view, watching the boats drift by on the crystal turquoise waters of the Caribbean.

You will be enthusiastically welcomed and waited upon by BB’s British wife, Anna, who will chat you up about everything you need to know in Grenada. And she will probably know your uncle’s wife’s sister’s hairdresser!

The whole experience will leave you ready to sell all your belongings and move to Grenada…that’s what I did!

Here’s what one reader from Germany had to say about Patrick’s Homestyle Restaurant:

A small pink and violet house at Lagoon Road, just opposite the entrance to Port Louis. There isn’t any menu, they will serve you with a lot of small plates with different local food like Fishcake, Breadfruit Salad, Pork in Ginger, Crab Salad etc.. And Patrick is a very charming, fun and special person!

I’ve never been to Patrick’s but that review is typical of what I’ve heard about The Place and The Man. The man is Patrick Levine, and from all reports he is an awesome chef, and very gracious host. I’ve heard him called eccentric, charming, colorful, personable, and flamboyant to name a few. Sure sounds like he is as interesting as the food he serves.

What really distinguishes Patrick’s from other Grenada Restaurants is variety. For about US$23 you get to taste 20 different Grenadian dishes. You probably won’t find that anywhere else on the island.

Patrick’s Restaurant is located in the Lagoon Road. If you are coming from Grand Anse as you go pass the entrance to Port Louis Marina look for Patrick’s on your right.

Best to just call and get specific directions and also to let them know how may will be in your party. Here’s the number: 473-440-0364

Have you sampled Patrick’s delightful treats? What did you like (not like)? Leave us a comment below.

One of my friends picked Ocean Grill Restaurant as a good place to have a few drinks and a bite to eat. It was an excellent choice and we had a great time, as did the many tourist from the cruise ships who were popping in and out of the restaurant.

Excellent View and Atmosphere

One of the things Ocean Grill Restaurant has going for it that you will like is the view. I always thought Nutmeg Restaurant had the best view, but Ocean Grill’s view is 10 times better, and more accessible.

Both restaurants are located on the Carenage, but in addition to the scenery of the Carenage, at Ocean Grill you will also enjoy the view of the up and coming Port Louis Marina (Lagoon Road), and you can also see all the way down to Grand Anse Beach.

Here are some pictures of the view:

Food and Service… Two Thumbs Up!!!

The food was good. They did not over cook my fish.. thank goodness. Yes, that’s my litmus test these days. Far too many Grenadian cooks seem bent on cooking the hell out of a piece of fish. Like the dreadfully tasting thing, masquerading as a Grilled Sword Fish Steak on my plate at Nutmeg Restaurant.

I’m happy that Ocean Grill got it right… let’s hope they are consistent.

I had a fish sandwich with fries. The lettuce, tomato, and cucumber were all fresh, the fish was well seasoned and succulent, and the bread tasted like it just popped out the oven.

My buddy had stewed fish with sauteed potatoes and steamed vegetables. He loved it.

Our waitress got an A+.

She was friendly

She checked in on us sufficiently

She got your orders correct

And most importantly, she kept the Carib Beers flowing.

What more can you ask of a waitress?

Now go check them out

I don’t know what the mood is like for dinner, but from what I saw during the day, this is a good causal hangout to get some drinks, a bite to eat and catch up with friends. Great for lunch, or for when you need a break while on tour of St. George’s.

This week’s visitor review comes from Ryian in Washington DC. She writes about her vist to Carib Sushi in Le Marquis shopping center in Grand Anse.

Carib Sushi was much better than I would have ever expected. You may think to evade a sushi place in Grenada, or the Caribbean for that matter, but this place turned out to be one of the best places I have ever been to. They not only have an excellent eclectic sushi range consisting of local fish, but there are some other very appealing menu items for the non sushi lover. I found that to be one of the best things about Carib Sushi.

I got the spicy shrimp sushi. It was your basic California roll with fresh shrimp, fresh avocado, spicy mayonnaise, and lime juice rolled into sticky rice and sesame seed. The mayonnaise didn’t make it too spicy, it gave it just the right kick to the sushi. For those who are spicy shy there is also the regular non-spicy version of course.

Being an American I found the service to be some what slow, but for the laid back pace of the island I would say the service was pretty fast. Overall I would definitely go back to Carib sushi.

The big plus is that they open until midnight. It’s one of the few places you can depend on to get a decent meal past 10PM. Very handy if you arrive on a late flight and you’re starving. Its only 10 minutes from Point Salines International.

There is only one downside to Le Chateau that I hear often (see below)

Good Food Choices…Crab Back Anyone?

I was pleasantly surprised when I flipped open their menu and saw Crab Back listed. I totally forgot the last time I had this Grenadian treat. If you like crab cakes you will probably enjoy Crab Back… think of it as crab cakes Grenadian style, made from Grenadian Crabs and served in the shell or back of the crab.

Throw in two slices of hot garlic bread, a side of lime, and you are set… oh don’t forget a cold Carib Beer.

Here are some pictures of Le Chateau’s menu, compliments my friend Kris over at MyMoosie. All prices are in local currency (EC$)… where US$1.00 = EC$2.68.

Downside?… They’re Slow!!

The one complaint I hear from other visitors is that they’re slow. That was not my experience, but then again when I am in Grenada, and the Caribbean, I automatically switch to island time.

So don’t let that stop you, give ‘em a try, and leave a comment below so the rest of us know what’s the hot items on the menu.

Considering the fact that by the time we all got there we were all starving, I would say that overall the pizza was pretty good.

The service was very slow, in fact they forgot to put in an order for one of our drinks. Not only that but they also did not have the widest selection. The only option we had was pizza, and I personally have never heard of a pizzeria only offering pizza.

I will give them the benefit of the doubt since after all it was Christmas Eve and it seemed as though there were only three or four people working the entire restaurant.

But as I said, the pizza was pretty good, so if you are in no rush or like to take time in between courses, this is a good choice for you.

A good Roti in Grenada always seems to elude me. So when I received this post from Mimi a Washingtonian visiting Grenada, about her Roti experience at Ebony Restaurant in Grenville I just had to share it. Here Goes:

Ebony Restaurant is located in the heart of Grenville. I must admit from the outside I was very hesitant to eat from the restaurant but a good friend says she makes a special visit to Ebony’s every time she returns home to Grenada.

After much anticipation about Ebony’s having the best Roti in Grenada I was not disappointed.

The menu consists of traditional Grenadian dishes. I ordered a Lambi (Conch) Roti which is one of the best Roti’s I ever had (other being in Trinidad at the Roti Shop). The lambi was perfectly seasoned and very succulent.

For someone with a small appetite the roti “perfectly portioned.” This is the second time I was able to eat an entire roti in one sitting. I ordered a passion fruit drink which was very thirst quenching.

The service was excellent, both waitresses were attentive and patient as we ordered our meals. The prices were very reasonable… cheap to be perfectly honest.

The restroom facilities need renovating. I was told from a friend who grew up in Grenville that they’ve been at that location for a very long time, which may explain the appearance.

I am so disappointed we didn’t order any Rotis to go because it was a long and dismal night with the Lambi Roti on my mind (even when I returned to the states).

In a nutshell I will return to Ebony Restaurant during my next visit to Grenada. 5/5 stars for me given I was able to get beyond Ebony’s aesthetics.

My intended destination was Club Karma for the Ladies Free Night, but I got there early and decided to kill some time and a couple beers at the Creole Shack. The Creole Shack is adjacent to Club Karma.

I was curious why Creole Shack had so many people (mainly locals and a few tourists), all tables were occupied, and the bar was busy. Then I heard a Karaoke Contest was about to begin… $3000 on the line. Lucky me, my night was off to a good start.

The little entertainment was quite good, a fair mix of the talented and talentless.

I got so relaxed, and hooked on the Karaoke that when it was time to head up to Karma I was hesitant.

I finally left for Karma around 11:30PM, scouted around there a bit (things were still dead) and headed back down to catch some more Karaoke.

I did not forget my camera this time and got a couple clips… the lighting is bad, and the sound not great, but it will give you a feel for the atmosphere.

First a lot of changes have taken place on the restaurant scene in Grenada.

De Big Fish Restaurant is no longer running at full speed or any speed – my advice -stay away till someone takes it over!

Delicous Cafe in True Blue is a great new Italian eatery opened from 7am- 6pm – the owners use to be part of DiVinos Wine Bar.

While your’re still in the neighborhood near the St. George’s University (SGU) campus there is a Great Indian Cafe- a must for all that love Indian food.

Sol City Sports Bar is a fairly new place in St Georges which has Large TV screens , air -con and great food and drinks.

Prickly Bay Marina and Davides Pizzeria still make the one and only best Pizza in this neck of woods by far – skip Boulangerie all together their food is geared to the SGU quick bites and lacks the passion of Italian cooking altogether!!

Carib Sushi has great sushi and well is the only real sushi bar here – downfall is their prices are great too $$$$ especially since we all know you can eat all you can eat sushi in USA for USD$20

I still like Wall Street for my street meat of either chicken, pork or fish- cheap and quick and nice!! Especially with a cold Carib!

Also a local favorite with me too is La Chateau in the Marquis Mall – great food and great Garlic buttered Lobster- with a nice frozen Pina Colada! Wow.

The Melting Pot Sports Bar and Grill

Good Grenadian Food in Grenville

French Creole Cuisine with a distinctive Grenadian Flavor is the tag line for the Melting Pot Sports Bar and Grill. Well I don’t know about the French Creole part, but the flavors surely were Grenadian.

This Grenadian Restaurant is in the town of Grenville. Grenville is Grenada’s second largest town, it’s in the North East of the island. Most likely you will make it up to Grenville if you are on an island tour.

Personally, I try to take at least one island tour on every trip I make to Grenada to see what’s changed. In Grenville I normally look forward to finding a good Roti, but this time I wanted a little more variety… that’s how I found The Melting Pot.

This Sports Bar and Grill is very similar to the Creole Shack in St. George’s, on the beautiful Carenage. It’s a cafeteria style operation where you choose the potions you want, and pay the cashier at the end of the line.

The Melting Pot’s Menu

There is a wide selection to choose from including:

Sword Fish, King Fish

Curried chicken, curry beef, curry goat

Brown Chicken/Beef Stew,

Steamed green bananas, plantains, sweet potatoes, yams

Steamed vegetables

Macaroni pie

Stewed pumpkin, callaloo & okra

Stewed pegion peas

This my plate above…. I had a healthy appetite that day.

Quick Service

What I like most is that there is hardly any wait. The line moves fast, and low items are quickly replenished from the kitchen. Compare this with the typical restaurant in Grenada where the wait can sometimes be longer than you anticipate. Think of the Grenville Restaurant as home cooked taste, at fast food pace.

Get a table in the bar area to the back, and you will get the ocean view that comes with it..

Facilities

The decor is pretty ordinary, the restroom I used was of acceptable standard, and overall the restaurant was clean.

I won’t suggest that you go out of your way to eat at The Melting Pot Sports Bar and Grill, but if you happen to be in Grenville, and you’re in the mood for a home cooked Grenadian meal, then it’s a good option.

Ask for Andall Supermarket or The Box Shop (sign below) and you will find The Melting Pot above.

My favorite place to eat in Grenada is actually not at any of the Grenada Restaurants. It’s at my Mom’s house. To me her home cooked Grenadian meals are the best. And to be honest I just had to make that point, lest I end up in the dog house on my next visit.

But since you probably won’t get a chance to try Moms Entrees, let’s talk about the next best place: Grenada Restaurants.

It’s no secret that Grenadians know good cooking. You will be hard pressed to find a Grenadian who doesn’t know their way around a kitchen. With such a demanding public to please you can bet that the food at all the Grenada Restaurants are a cut above good.

Here is a list of some of my favorite Grenada Restaurants. As I visit more of the top Grenada Restaurants this list will grow. And of course my comments about these Grenada Restaurants are a reflection of my taste and style.

Don’t agree with My List?
Think there’s a Grenada Restaurant missing that really ought to be on it?
How about your favorite entrees, deserts, best bites, etc. that everyone would want to know?
Then share it with us… scroll to the bottom or click here to skip down to the form

Best Grenada Restaurants

Aquarium Restaurant – arguably the best restaurant of all the Grenada Restaurants. Looking for a beautiful truly Caribbean beach and rain forest feel? Go to Aquarium restaurant to celebrate that special occasion, for it’s awesome Sunday beach barbecue, or for drinks at it’s Mediterranean bar. To top it off it’s right on one of the best Grenada Beaches

True Blue Restaurant and Dodgy Dock – One of the few Grenada Restaurants where you can satisfy your desire for Mexican Cuisine. And it’s the only Grenada Restaurant I know where you can eat there every night for a week and not get bored. It’s not just the Grenadian, Mexican, American cuisine, it’s also the Marina, the Music, the different nightly themes, and mix of diners

De Big Fish Restaurant – For the best darn Grilled Swordfish I ever had try this Grenada Restaurant. A casual open air atmosphere sitting on the quiet waters bay. Great place to catch up with friends and knock back a few Caribs… (If you know of a place that serves a better Grilled swordfish tell me below)

Red Crab Restaurant – Nothing extraordinary about this Grenada Restaurant. They have a great reputation… I’ve known about them since I was a kid, so they must be doing something right to be around for such a long time. Traditional menu of seafood, beef, chicken, etc and overly pricey.

Rick’s Cafe – hands down the best Ice Cream on the island, perfect place to stop off after a day on Grand Anse beach. They also serve pizza, barbecue, sandwiches, and beers. Some of the staff has been there for as long as I can remember maybe (15 or more years)

Le Chateau restaurant – Crab Back (think Crab Cakes served in the Carb’s back/shell), Callaloo and French Onion Soup, Seafood Kebab, Garlic and Creole Shrimp, are just some of the mouth watering treats you will find here. It’s in the heart of Grand Anse in Le Marquis Shopping Plaza

Bananas Restaurant – at this Grenada Hotspot you get more than just a restaurant. Include the lively bar and the famous night club it’s easy to see why many consider this Grenada’s premier hangout.

The Beach House Restaurant – great for a special occasion, it has a more upscale feel, the food is great, and the wait staff is friendly. Also check out the beach if it’s in the day.

BB’s Crabback Restaurant – A popular restaurant in the heart of St. George’s on the Carenage. Read about visitor’s rave review.

Kudos Bar & Grill – well I can’t vouch for the food here but what I can tell you is that they host one helluva Happy Hour.

Nutmeg Restaurant – A favorite among locals and visitors alike. This is one of the oldest Grenada restaurants. It’s located on the beautiful Carenage. Ask to be seated at or close to the window, for the great views of the inner harbor. Martha Stewart visited The Nutmeg on her Grenada trip. At one time they were famous for their “Chicken Snack” – Fried Chicken and Fries (chips) with coleslaw.

Laurena Hotel Restaurant – You will have to take a scenic trip up to beautiful Carriacou, in the Grenadines, the tase the delicious Red Snapper, or mouth watering Peas Soup that we had at this restaurant. Small and clean, with friendly staff it’s a great option when in Carriacou.

Restaurant at SGU Campus Grand Anse Beach – On the old St. George’s University(SGU) Campus on Grand Anse Beach there is a excellent restaurant that serves some really good Grenadian Cuisine. Nothing facny, just good food, that’s all.

Victory Bar and Grill – Lunch, afternoon snack, or drinks this great spot in the lovely Port Louis Marina can fit either occasion. We had drinks there and enjoyed it. Conveniently located between Grand Anse and St. George’s.

Creole Shak – also on the Carenage and very close to the Nutmeg restaurant. This is a cafeteria style operation that’s very popular among locals for lunch, but the line moves quickly. It’s a great place to sample many different Grenadian foods at a very reasonable price.

The biggest complain I get about Caribbean and Grenada Restaurants is that they can be too slow. At Creole Shak I was eating within 5 minutes of getting in line … not bad at all, considering the good quality and variety of food items offered. And most importantly the food was all delicious. On Friday and Saturday nights there’s also karaoke.

The Melting Pot Sports Bar & Grill – very similar to the Creole Shak. I think it’s under the same management. A great option if you are in the town of Grenville and craving some wholesome Grenadian food. The boasts French Creole Cuisine Grenadian style as their signature taste.

Gouyave Fish Friday – This one is NOT a Grenada Restaurant, but since we are talking about good places to eat, I thought we should throw it in. Gouyave Fish Fridays is an outdoor event, held every Friday in the coastal village of Gouyave.

It’s a Seafood lover dream come true. So if you are up to tasting the very best seafood Grenada has to offer, and you like hanging out with the local folks then check out Gouyave Fish Fridays.

And Now it’s your Turn…

As you can see there are tons of really good Grenada Restaurants and eateries missing from this list. The truth is I will never ever be able to try them all out.

First I’m just one guy who visits Grenada only twice a year for at most 2 weeks at a time

And second even when I’m in Grenada it’s tough to leave those home cooked Oil Down and Fish Broth that Moms and the boys prepare to go out to eat.

So that’s where you come in!

On your next Grenada Vacation try Sea Port in Lagoon Road, St. George’s. If the food is as good as Amanda from London says it is, then I think we are all in for a delightful treat.

Here’s what Amanda said about Sea Port Restaurant:

Stewed chicken so good I nearly licked my plate. A new eatery with some starter hitches i.e. good food runs out fast! Huge video wall, Grenada ice cream and did I mention the excellent stewed chicken with callaloo, coo coo …. stop dribbling!

The Lagoon Road area is also home to the Port Louis Marina and Victory Bar. A multi-million dollar project that continues to transform St. George’s. I can’t wait to see the finished product. My bet is that the entire Marina, and the already Picturesque Carenage will become a real hot spot for Grenada travelers and locals alike.

Another favorite Grenada Restaurant you can try in the Lagoon Rd. Community is Tropicana Restaurant.

Has anyone else tried Sea Port, Tropicana or the Port Louis Victory Bar and Grill? If so, then Write a Comment and tell us about it.

Callaloo Restaurant’s Beach Side Leasure

How nice to happen upon this website….

I have to tell you I always like to see how well a cafe or stand does with their Roti’s and some make Callaloo or Pepperpot Soup….. Oh….My….Goodness!

This place can’t get a review on anything but its Callalloo soup = because I never got past it, it was Heaven on earth, “to die for” as we say here in California!

I wish I could have tried more items but my belly would not take more than three bowls at one sitting, and I didn’t want to risk missing out on enjoying as much of this nectar as possible.

I had it all over the Caribbean and this was on par with the best I’ve ever had, equal to that of a famous Chef in Jamaica that passed away about 8 years ago. I sampled this cafe’s fare, and couldn’t believe it!

I wrote an article for Lonely Planet on this subject, yet it wasn’t printed. Maybe a good thing as it can be our little secret, aye?!

Also the location right on the beach, and I mean right on it, is easy on the eyes too!

Mark

I was not overly impressed with the Victory Bar at Port Louis Marina when I visited, but that might have more to do with the time I visited than with the place itself. I hooked up with my old high school crew one week night and we went there for drinks.

Some of the guys taking a drink

Maybe going there on a week night was not such a good idea. I normally like things to be hopping. Not too crowded, but just enough folks, and chatter to add some life to the place if you know what I mean. A little music doesn’t hurt either.

Well it was far from lively. But that certainly did not stop us from having an awesome time. All you need are cold Carib Beers, some food from their grill, good friends, and you’re set.

Both the bar, and it’s surroundings are beautiful, even at night that stood out. I can only imagine what it must look like in daylight. I think you will be impressed. The Victory Bar is part of the spectacular Port Louis, a multi-million dollar luxury resort and Marina, that’s the brainchild of British Entrepreneur Peter De Savary.

See those red roofs?… that’s where we were. I took this shot from Fort George

The bar sits on the edge of the lovely marina, in the Lagoon Rd community. It’s right off the main road you travel from Grand Anse to St. George’s, so it’s easy to find.

No doubt as the Port Louis brand spread, I expect this area to become very popular.

A quick run down on some other observations:

Prices are a tad bit steep, so keep that in mind.

Mens restroom was clean, as was the entire the bar, that’s always good

No complaints about the staff.

I did not eat but the guys enjoyed the food from the Grill

Mounted flat screen TV with international sports channels

So basically the Victory Bar has all the markings of a fun place, it was just our luck, maybe, that we went there on a very slow night. I plan to give them a second shot, maybe for a mid afternoon snack, lunch, or on a weekend.

How about you? Had a good experience at the Victory Bar?… Tell us about it.

(Nashville)

Ah ha. If you are looking to find a snack while partying at the nearby Fantasia Night Club, or just looking to find a midday or evening meal, Sur La Mer Restaurant is there to meet your needs.

Conveniently located adjoining the Fantasia Nightclub, Sur La Med Restaurant is lovely and affordable (although a bit pricier than some of the other local hot spots).

With a menu as diverse as the resources of Grenada, this classy, beachfront, restaurant offers a significant blend of exotic, and local meals that will satisfy any palate.

Indeed, the price matches the efficiency of the staff and the tastiness of the dishes.
One can find the everyday “chicken snack” or Roti, as well as Lambie (conch) and other seafood dishes that are the quintessential Grenadian culinary experiences.

If you are partying at Fantasia and just need to soothe that hunger, or if you are just trying to find a nice, quiet Grenadian restaurant, with a beachfront view, tasty dishes and a complementary bar, drop by Sur La Mer Restaurant.

It is , as the name suggests, a local, but very chic venue, to meet your palatable needs.

by Lakisha
(Nashville, TN USA)

This fabulous, secluded, Grenada beach is located close to the St. David’s/St. Andrew’s boundary, in Cafe, St. Andrew’s. It’s off the beaten path as the say, and a vehicle can get you only so far. The rest of the journey is on foot, or bicycle. But it’s well worth it.

It is a beautiful, breathtaking beach, with the clear blue waters and white sands that are so characteristic of Grenada’s beaches.

What gives this beach a different “feel” from all other Grenada Beaches? Is it because its partial isolation accentuates the local flavors, scents, and sights of Grenada even more? I don’t know for sure, but I do know that I always feel different at Cabiere Beach… in a very good way of course.

You can relax on its white sand, or enjoy the services of the resort and restaurants that are strategically within walking distance of the beach. In addition, you can take in the Grenadian juices, and delicacies from the local vendors.

It is a perfect venue for a family or friends outing. It’s also a perfect venue for strolling lovers, and honeymooners, especially at evening.

Lush green vegetation, tropical shrubs and trees, as well as scenic views, makes Cabiere by far, one of the best beaches in Grenada and the Caribbean.

I love it, love it, love it, and I can’t wait to return there every time I visit Grenada.

Nutmeg Restaurant… What Martha Stewart Knows that We Don’t?

I bet you did not know that Martha Stewart was spotted at Grenada’s Nutmeg Restaurant. Heck, I am sure you did not even know that was in Grenada.

Well yes she was, and she even wrote about her visit in Grenada on her Up Close and Personal web log.

So I was curious, why of all the Grenada Restaurants did Martha Stewart choose to visit Nutmeg Restaurant?

I had no clue… but I had a plan to find out ( more on that later).

Now don’t get me wrong, I am not bashing The Nutmeg, not at all. It’s still a good restaurant, it’s just that it’s no longer the most popular. It lost that status a long time ago. However, we still had drinks there on a recent visit, and enjoyed it.

Afternoon Drinks at Nutmeg Restaurant

We ran into my sister’s friend in St. George’s, and he suggested we join him at Nutmeg Restaurant for drinks. Yes! Drinks he said, and he’s buying… I like this guy already. We’re off!

We got a window seat, I suggest you ask one if it is available. Between the scenic view of the Carenage, and the passersby on the street below, it’s easy to be more captivated by what’s outside than inside.

This was one of the few times that I was not in the mood for a Carib Beer (I know, I know, that’s sacrilegious!! Right?). Instead I chose to go with a home grown cocktail that I made up on the spot.

You gotta try this if you get a chance.

Nutmeg serves this exotic fruit beverage made from the 5 fingers fruit (Carambola, Star Fruit) which by itself is great. But add a shot of Clarkes Court Lemon to this drink and …. Voila your taste buds come alive. The drink is out of this world I tell you. After my first, I started to rant about it so much that one of my Carib drinking buddies ordered one to see what all the hoopla was about. One taste and he too was raving.

We had a wonderful time. Such a great time that I forgot to ask our waiter about Martha Stewart’s visit to The Nutmeg Restaurant on her Grenada trip (so much for my plan). So my curiosity lives on.

Was it the food?

Was it the service?

Was it the view?

Was it the Reputation?

Or was it because Martha Stewart might have been running a theme on spices that week, and the name Nutmeg was somewhat symbolic in that sense.

Like I said I haven’t the faintest idea, because she never said why. But hey, if the Nutmeg Restaurant is good enough for a billionaire TV celebrity, then maybe it might be good enough for you, so check them out next time you are in St. George’s. And if you do click here and tell the rest of us what you liked about it.

Nutmeg Pictures

The scenery is definitely a big factor that the Nutmeg has going for it.

There’s our waiter with another one of my drinks – 5 fingers and Clarkes Court Lemon. See my friend finishing up his Carib Beer to try my drink thats in front of him.

Directly across from the Nutmeg is the main Port, and beyond that is the Grenada Yacht Services and Port Louis Victory Bar.

Another one of many views from the Nutmeg Restaurant. Looking south east towards Grand Anse, while a container ship leaves the port.

As usual my mom had a great time.

Where’s The Nutmeg Restaurant?

It’s in the town of St. George’s on the Carenage to be precise. Once you get into town just ask anyone… everybody knows where it is.

Alternatively you can take the scenic stroll around the Carenage which I highly recommend, and just look for this sign.
