This is Part 3 of Christmas in Paradise by Oliver (Winchester, UK). If you have not read Part 1 or Part 2 of Oliver’s Christmas in Grenada you should do so first before continuing.

Culinarily speaking, our greatest triumph was the cooking of seven (yes, seven) lobsters, which we collected direct from the boat in Lower Woburn.

As we feasted on the delicious meat, I reflected that the cheapest lobster I’d seen on any menu was 75 EC dollars, while we’d paid just 100 EC for all those lobsters. Bargain!

We planned to eat out as much as possible but in the end (no way were we going to risk drinking and driving), we ended up walking over the hill to Le Phare Bleu on several occasions, as it was just a five minute walk from the house.

We didn’t risk the beautiful but pricey Västra Banken lightship itself but found the Poolbar restaurant a great place to chill with nice food, very cheap Happy Hour Carib Buckets and live music of varying quality.

We disgraced ourselves by allowing our guard dog to follow us into the complex, whereupon she promptly stared a dogfight in the middle of the restaurant, scattering the diners in terror.

This is by no means the “real” Grenada, by the way, more the sanctuary of well-heeled European yachtie types, but still a beautiful place to relax.

Talking of Carib Beer, I’m afraid I’m addicted. We adventurously ventured to the brewery itself and bought two crates, which I’m embarrassed to say I single-handedly emptied in a week. It’s nectar.

Carib Girls - Le Phare Bleu Happy Hour

We just had to try BB’s Crabback in St George’s, as Giles Coren had pronounced it the “best restaurant in the world”. I don’t think even BB himself would claim that, but the food was indeed delicious and he fitted us in without a booking, even though an entire touring UK cricket party was also there. We left before it got noisy.

We sadly didn’t make the highly recommended Fish Friday in Gouyave, but other random places we tried included an incongruous but rather sweet German restaurant on the harbour, the aforementioned Mangrove Hideaway (while the lights still worked) and the more upmarket Dodgy Dock, great for plane spotting.

But none of them could match the simple majesty of the rotis at the Hard Wood Snacket in Carriacou, where we’d taken a day trip with the Osprey (shockingly referred to by the locals as the “Vomit Comet”). But that’s another story.

One thing’s for sure – no future Christmas will ever measure up to this.

I had heard alot of buzz surrounding Grenada’s Club Karma, and when I first set foot in the Club I finally saw what all the excitement was about. It’s a top of the line Night Club, the best I’ve ever seen in Grenada.

My cousin says it reminds her of a Club in South Beach Miami, and if you know anything about South Beach that says a heck of a lot. Personally I find it to be on par with some of Washington DC’s popular night clubs.

My friends who frequent the Club all gave it rave reviews. So you can imagine my disappoint when all primed up, I got there only to find out that they were about to close for the night. Turns out I picked one of their College Night events, and apparently university policy required it to finish at 2:00 AM… at least that’s what I was told.

We got there around 1:45AM, after a Gouyave Fish Fridays and a Kudos hangout… Karma was practically empty. Must not have been the best night.

So on my next trip I intend to make up for that mishap.

Club Karma Location, Events, Anniversary

You will find Club Karma on the scenic and easily accessible Carenge in St. Georges. 10,000 sq.ft of partying space…. think you can handle it?

It’s been going strong for several months now and will soon celebrate it’s 1 Year Anniversary on November 1st.  So Happy Anniversary Club Karma and here’s to many many more bigger and better years.

Here is the quick low down on the events. Seems like Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays are there big nights:

• Wednesday – Bring your “A game” it’s Karaoke Time with drinks specials

 

• Friday After Work – Heineken Happy Hour from 4PM – 9PM. Come unwind and knock back a Heinekin or two, or if you’re like me enjoy a beastly Cold Carib Beer (My favorite)

 

• Friday Night - Dress casual and come party to your favorite music, ladies free before 12:30 AM (as usual always ladies free… why? ).

 

• Saturday Night – More partying, with inclusive drinks, and a tighter Dress Code in effect.

 

On some nights there are special events so my advice is to always call first to be sure what’s scheduled. 473-435-CLUB. I also heard a Sports Bar and Grill are in the works, and that sounds like a perfect addition.

Update: Shortly after this post I learned that Kudos Bar and Grill is no longer in business. I will let you know if/when I hear anything new. At least we still have the dancing girls to remind us of the good times… see below.

What You Ought to Know About Kudos Bar & Grill

Kudos on a Friday throws a wicked Happy Hour. That’s what I heard, and that’s what I almost concluded. Read on and you will see why I say “almost”.

It was the second leg on our Friday evening/night hangout. First we hit Gouyave Fish Friday, then Kudos, followed by Club Karma… all in one night.

Looks like Kudos has developed somewhat of a reputation as the place to be on Friday evening for Happy Hour.

When we arrived at Kudos the Happy Hour was beginning to fizzle, but the energy level was still strong:

• Drinks were flowing
• Live band was jamming
• The ladies were doing their thing outside on the patio.
• Some of the guys were playing pool on the inside
• And lots of conversations were abuzz around the bar

I can tell that we were catching the tail end of what was no doubt one very sweet session.

But we did not stay very long, after two rounds of drinks we bolted, and headed to Club Karma, it was already pass midnight. As they say it was short and sweet. And it’s only because I had a short stint at Kudos that Friday night that I am reluctant to put Kudos in the category of a “Wicked Happy Hour”.

But if the tail end is any indication of what I missed when things were in full swing, then the Kudos Happy Hour definitely deserves to be in this category. Come judge for yourself.

Where is Kudos Bar and Grill?

Kudos is located in Lance Aux Epines, next to the Red Crab Restaurant. They normally stay open until 2AM. When driving into Lane Aux Epines, they will be on your right, just look for this sign:
