Here’s what one reader from Germany had to say about Patrick’s Homestyle Restaurant:

A small pink and violet house at Lagoon Road, just opposite the entrance to Port Louis. There isn’t any menu, they will serve you with a lot of small plates with different local food like Fishcake, Breadfruit Salad, Pork in Ginger, Crab Salad etc.. And Patrick is a very charming, fun and special person!

I’ve never been to Patrick’s but that review is typical of what I’ve heard about The Place and The Man. The man is Patrick Levine, and from all reports he is an awesome chef, and very gracious host. I’ve heard him called eccentric, charming, colorful, personable, and flamboyant to name a few. Sure sounds like he is as interesting as the food he serves.

What really distinguishes Patrick’s from other Grenada Restaurants is variety. For about US$23 you get to taste 20 different Grenadian dishes. You probably won’t find that anywhere else on the island.

Patrick’s Restaurant is located in the Lagoon Road. If you are coming from Grand Anse as you go pass the entrance to Port Louis Marina look for Patrick’s on your right.

The Lagoon in St. George’s is newly revitalized, and it looks good. The area is also an emerging hot spot, with new additions such as Sea Port Restaurant, Lazy Lagoon, and Deja Vu, complementing the more established places like Tropicana Restaurant and Port Louis Victory Bar.

I was not overly impressed with the Victory Bar at Port Louis Marina when I visited, but that might have more to do with the time I visited than with the place itself. I hooked up with my old high school crew one week night and we went there for drinks.

Maybe going there on a week night was not such a good idea. I normally like things to be hopping. Not too crowded, but just enough folks, and chatter to add some life to the place if you know what I mean. A little music doesn’t hurt either.

Well it was far from lively. But that certainly did not stop us from having an awesome time. All you need are cold Carib Beers, some food from their grill, good friends, and you’re set.

Both the bar, and it’s surroundings are beautiful, even at night that stood out. I can only imagine what it must look like in daylight. I think you will be impressed. The Victory Bar is part of the spectacular Port Louis, a multi-million dollar luxury resort and Marina, that’s the brainchild of British Entrepreneur Peter De Savary.

The bar sits on the edge of the lovely marina, in the Lagoon Rd community. It’s right off the main road you travel from Grand Anse to St. George’s, so it’s easy to find.

No doubt as the Port Louis brand spread, I expect this area to become very popular.

A quick run down on some other observations:

• Prices are a tad bit steep, so keep that in mind.
• Mens restroom was clean, as was the entire the bar, that’s always good
• No complaints about the staff.
• I did not eat but the guys enjoyed the food from the Grill
• Mounted flat screen TV with international sports channels

So basically the Victory Bar has all the markings of a fun place, it was just our luck, maybe, that we went there on a very slow night. I plan to give them a second shot, maybe for a mid afternoon snack, lunch, or on a weekend.

Tropicana restaurant is located in the Lagoon Road area south of St. George’s and just north of the tourist belt area in Grenada. It is an in town restaurant that caters to both locals and tourists.

In fact, as a complement to a low-priced motel and an outdoor bar, Tropicana Restaurant gives the choice of outdoor dining with the elements of nature or indoor dining in air conditioned comfort. Outdoor was the choice of all the patrons who were there as I entered for lunch with a delectable dish of my own.

The food choices on the menu were as varied as I have ever seen at any restaurant. But be careful! Local restaurants are frequently out of items that are listed on the menu, as was the case with my first choice appetizer, Crab-back! Nonetheless, we were able to partake of some local cuisine that was tasty and well worth the over 25 minute wait. Moreover, our pre-lunch cocktails were more than delicious. I had a house special D-moss, a milky shake made from a local vegetable; and my companion had the fruit punch, a delightful blend of fresh tropical fruits.

I had the fish special while my companion chose the stewed pork special. The fish of the day was king fish which was steamed in butter and onions and served with rice and peas and ground provisions. The pork, served with the same sides, was stewed in a blackened slightly sweet sauce and is a local favorite.The ground provisions consisted of fried plantains (a large sweet banana type vegetable), dasheen, and yam (the starchy, not sweet variety)!

Taste and quantity were both winners! Price was reasonable. With cocktails and gratuity we walked away for about $30 US. While that was an extravagant lunch by local standards, when considering the inclusion of a pricey cocktail, it was more than a treat for the price. In fact, it was ample enough to make dinner optional and facilitate a lethargic evening on one of the Grenada’s south side beaches!
