Magazine Beach is another one of Grenada’s Beast Beaches, and it’s number 3 on my list of Favorite Grenada Beaches.

Magazine Beach

Magazine Beach goes by many names. I’ve heard it called Rex beach, the Beach at Rex Grenadian, and Aquarium Beach. Whatever you choose to call it won’t not change the fact that it is one of the best of all Grenada Beaches, and one of my favorite.

Go to Magazine Beach if you are looking for no disturbances, but still want to be close to the action. Depending on the day of the week, or time of day you get the feeling that Magazine Beach is all yours.

If you are a guest at the Rex Grenadian hotel this will probably be your default beach. If you are not a guest expect to share the beach with a few guests from this hotel and even fewer locals.

Refreshments

On the southern end of Magazine Beach is Aquarium Restaurant. That just solved all your food concerns. Aquarium is one of Grenada’s best Restaurants. They also have an endless supply of cocktails and cold Carib beers (local favorite) for the occasion, served from their nice beach bar. Just don’t go swimming if you had one too many.

Beach Activities

Catching a wave on a kayak and snorkeling the nearby reefs are two fun activities at Magazine Beach. Sunday is a spacial day and one of the best days to visit Magazine Beach; thats of course if you like Barbecue. The Aquarium restaurant puts on a beach barbecue and all are invited.

Getting To Magazine Beach

• Magazine Beach is located behind the hill at Point Salines International Airport
• Follow the Road towards the Airport, and continue until you arrive at Aquarium Restaurant. Or you can access the beach higher up via Rex Grenadian Hotel area.
• Public transport is not an option. Rent a car and drive there yourself, or take a taxi.

Convenient Hotels

The Rex Grenadian Hotel occupies the northern section of Magazine Beach and is the closest hotel. La Source Hotel is also another nearby option; it is less than a mile away.

My Top 6 Grenada Beaches

Okay so let’s cut it down from 45 Grenada Beaches to the top 6 Grenada Beaches. We’re not throwing the other 39 beaches away, only putting them on reserve for you. If you ever get the urge to explore further, they’re all your’s for your enjoyment.

So let’s get to it, here are my top picks for the best Grenada Beaches

1. Grand Anse Beach

You will be hard pressed to find a more spectacular beach anywhere in the world, no kidding … and am not biased, that’s according to the many travel writers and visitors that swim, stroll, and soak up the sun, on this beach each and every year.

2. Morne Rouge Beach (BBC Beach)

Most locals refer to this one as BBC beach, am sure there is a story behind the name but I never bothered to inquire. Probably got the name from the BBC night club that once operated on the beach.

Morne Rouge Beach like Grand Anse beach lies in the heart of the hotel district, in the south of Grenada.

Holidays aside, this is one beach you can have all to yourself. It’s an interesting contrast of Lush green trees, white sands, and calm turquoise waters. When am looking for a more peaceful relaxing day I will choose Morne Rouge on a weekday.

And if you have small children, then this beach is probably one of your safest choices among all the Grenada Beaches. Morne Rouge Bay is sheltered, so the waves are often quite calm.

3. Magazine Beach

Another beautiful beach on Grenada’s Southwestern coast.

Magazine Beach, is is the home of the Rex Grenadian Hotel and the Aquarium Restaurant. The beach is about one mile of white sand, and clear blue waters.

Great food and drinks from Aquarium Restaurant, kayaking, and snorkeling all accentuate a fun day on this Grenada beach. Find out why Sunday is one of the best days to spend on this beach.

4. Pink Gin Beach

This one lies almost at the very tip of the island, behind the hill overlooking Point Salines International Airport.

Pink Gin Beach, is even more secluded than Morne Rouge Beach. Pinkish sand, pristine waters and a picturesque view of St. George welcomes you at Pink Gin Beach.

Add to that, the convenience of the La Source Hotel, the opportunity for all sorts of water sports; or just chill out and relax; and it’s easy to see why Pink Gin Beach is a top favorite.

5. Bathway Beach

A beautiful strip of white sand beach in the north of the island.

If you are looking for action … people, food, drinks, and just good times then Bathway beach on a Grenada holiday is the one place to be.

Of course like most Grenada beaches, during the weekdays and even on weekends you will feel like this long strip of sand is all yours. But before you take the plunge at Bathway beach be sure to read this …

When you’re at Bathway you get a bonus!! Only a couple minutes away is another one of Grenada’s very special spots.

6. La Sagesse Beach

Any list of the top Grenada Beaches won’t be complete withoutan option for the romantic birds.

If you want quiet time with that special someone, then La Sagesse can be your beach. Most people come here when they do not want to be seen, or disturbed.

On special occasions Aquarium Restaurant shines. My Mom and I both have the same birthday. On her 66th birthday (don’t tell her I told you), we had dinner at Aquarium Restaurant to celebrate that spacial occasion.

It’s interesting how I settled on Aquarium Restaurant.  Restaurants are a funny business, very trendy; consistency is hard to maintain; management change all the time; and sometimes the service goes right out the door. 

It was my first time back in Grenada after a long break, and I had two problems:

1. How to pick a good restaurant from among the many Grenada Restaurants?
2. And to make matters worst, like all good cooks, my Mom is extremely hard to please when it comes to eating outside her kitchen.

So I turned to my trusted network of local friends, and asked for their top recommendations. Everyone had one restaurant in common. But still not fully convinced, I decided to leave it in the hands of another trusted friend whose opinion I really valued. This guy gets around Grenada.

Of all the Grenada Restaurants he made reservations for us at Aquarium Restaurant. And you should already guess that it was an outstanding choice.

Ambiance

The ambiance at Aquarium Restaurant is inviting and scenic. The Restaurant is open air, and lovely art accent the infrequent wall or two. The waterfalls, Koi pond, palm and banana trees all bring the feel of the Grenada forest to the beach. 

Relax and enjoy your meal as you listen to waves washing ashore, or adore the lights of St. George’s and the western coast as they dot the darkness across the waters.

Food

How about the food?… well this was one of the rare occasions where my mom only had good comments about the food. She had one of the fish entree, but the name escapes me now … all I can remember is that she ate everything, and said the chef did a good job. That speaks volumes if you know my mom. 

I had the crayfish entree in place of lobster (they were out). I would rate it as good but not excellent … the crayfish itself was not the most succulent I’ve tasted, but still delicious.

To top things off we both got complementary slices of birthday cake … and very warm greetings from our waiter. His service was very good throughout our entire dinner.

Beach Bar and Sunday Barbecue

Aquarium Restaurant is really Aquarium Beach bar and Restaurant. So it’s not only great for dinner and lunch, but you can plan your whole beach day around this restaurant, it’s bar, and the beautiful beach. 

The Aquarium beach bar (La Sirena) serves up cocktails and local beers in a Mediterranean setting.

Aquarium Restaurant’s Sunday Barbecue has grown into a favorite event for the entire family to enjoy. I have not made it to this barbecue yet but it’s very high on my list.

This Grenada-Beaches visitor said he enjoyed the beach barbecue and Aquarium Restaurant was by far his favorite Grenada Restaurant.

The beach in front of Aquarium Restaurant is one of the Top Grenada Beaches. You can enjoy snorkeling, catch a wave on a kayak, or just work on that golden tan.

Final Note About Aquarium Restaurant

It’s five minutes from the Point Salines Airport. So if you have some time to kill before your flight comes in (or leaves) just swing by Aquarium for a few drinks.

And next time you’re in Grenada I will definitely suggest that you put Aquarium Restaurant at the head of your list of Grenada restaurants to try.
